Steve Balaban is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Mink Capital, the private equity solution for family offices. He is also a Director of Wealth Management Canada.
Mr. Balaban also teaches at the University of Waterloo where he created a new course titled Private Equity and Venture Capital as well as a new International Course that brings twelve students to different financial centres in the world each year, such as London and Hong Kong.
Mr. Balaban serves on the Board of Directors of the CFA Society Toronto, where he is the Chair of the Awards & University Relations Committee, a member of the Mentorship Committee and a member of the Corporate & Government Relations Committee. He was also the senior adviser to the University of Waterloo 2016 CFA Research Challenge Global Award winners (1st place out of over 1,000 universities worldwide).
Prior to Mink Capital, as a senior executive of Dunkley Capital, Mr. Balaban invested in real estate and private businesses, including a consolidation of billboard companies throughout Canada where he served as President of Stellar Outdoor Advertising.
Mr. Balaban received a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, graduating on the Dean’s list, and received an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University. He has also earned his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Mr. Balaban has extensive international experience. He has worked, studied and visited over seventy-five countries in every continent in the world. He maintains a bucket list of other countries he’s determined to get to!
At Mink Capital, Mr. Yang builds financial models and performs financial sensitivity analysis. In addition, he creates in depth research reports for clients including some of Canada’s leading private equity firms.
Mr. Yang received a Masters of Business Administration from Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and he has successfully completed all three CFA examinations. Mr. Yang has also earned his Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certification and his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Prior to Mink Capital, Mr. Yang worked in Tokyo, Japan for over six years. With his strong experience in the Telecom, Media and Technology (TMT) sector, he was awarded the “Highly Skilled Foreign Professional” by the Japanese Government in Aug 2012. While studying at Rotman, Mr. Yang completed a summer intern program at RBC Capital Markets in 2013.
At Mink Capital, Mr. Lima is responsible for the marketing and media management.
Prior to Mink Capital, for seven years, Mr. Lima was a private banker and financial advisor at the biggest independent investment firm in Brazil, where he developed a vast amount of knowledge in financial markets, wealth management and investment advisory. He was also a financial instructor for the company, teaching clients how to better understand investments. He has several certifications and awards in the financial markets.
Mr. Lima received a Bachelor in Business Administration from one of the best universities in Brazil, PUC RIO – Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, and earned a Certificate in Financial Analysis and Investment Management at University of Toronto where he is preparing himself a CFA designation.
At Mink Capital, Ahmet is responsible for creating digital marketing campaigns, establishing SEO strategies and developing marketing plans.
Ahmet has an extensive and deep knowledge of digital marketing and has been responsible for developing social media and digital strategies across a wide range of marketing functions.
Ahmet holds a Bachelors’ degree from Girne American University in International Business Management and is currently pursuing a marketing management and financial services post-graduate program at George Brown College.
